Re: What's Virgin Media like these days?
Signed up to Virgin 50Mb earlier. Couldn't resist really, managed to get a free V+ box and installation (still have to pay a £20 connection fee for the 50Mb service though), 2 months free TV and Broadband and £150 Quidco cashback .

Sounds like a good deal. 50mb should be quite handy, what upload do you get with that?

1.5Mb, which is twice what I have now but still seems really crap on a 50Mb downstream The 20Mb has 768Kb, and the 10Mb down has 512Kb up .

Re: What's Virgin Media like these days?
Its enough though for some reason I thought it might be 10Mb, probably thing of fibre.

Re: What's Virgin Media like these days?
But it is fibre, and the method they use (FTTC) has a limit of 15Mbps up from what I read. BT have 10Mb up with theirs and they're using the same method.
I think it's to do with the TV service requiring bandwidth as well. They have to allow it enough for 3 HD channels (recording 2 and watching a 3rd), as well as a 50Mb downstream.
As I said, it's still over twice what I have now, so I'm happy, I just think that they could push out more.

Re: What's Virgin Media like these days?
Amusing comment on an F1 site, after Virgin lauch3ed their F1 car. Quote: There were red faces all round when the new Virgin motorsport team tried to launch their new digitally designed race car through a digital medium - the internet - and it froze. The embarrassment was doubly felt because Virgin media are an internet services provider. Subscribers to the Virgin broadband service predict the car will be very much like their internet service - increasingly expensive and nowhere near as fast as they say it'll be.

Got it all set up and running. It took a couple of days for the broadband to settle which was odd as I thought cable didn't need to settle.

Re: What's Virgin Media like these days?
Yep, although all my wireless items need to be updated now as it only works at ~20Mbps speeds with 802.11g, and my BT powerline adapters suck, turns out they only have ~5Mbps throughput according to the PS3 .

Re: What's Virgin Media like these days?
You'll wanna get the AV powerline stuff, mine could handle 50Mbs, though supposedly 200Mbs was the top speed they never reached that, 50 was fine though, minial lag associated wth them too, max 10ms, avergae <5.
Course mine are ancient there is probably much better around, no doubt same goes for wireless.

Re: What's Virgin Media like these days?
I'm currently looking into changing my monitor for one with HDMI and composite. Once I do that the PS3/Xbox will probably end up on the desk next to the router anyway.
