Post New laptop, which cheap CPU
Looking to pick up a replacement laptop as our current one is falling to pieces after one too many attacks from the little one.

I don't want to fall into the netbook Atom crap again, though if I can find a laptop with my netbooks build quality I wouldn't mind, I've seen a few cheap laptops with all sorts of Celeron, Sempron etc, but can't find any good details that tell me how they compare to an Atom.

Anyone know anything, or of any cheap laptop deals, sub £300.

Post Re: New laptop, which cheap CPU
Just a little update to this having replaced the damaged lappy with a Vaio I was still left with my netbook, great for size and portability but pretty sucky performance which I've complained about since I bought it two years ago.

Morrisons have been having a bit of a clearout of electronics stuff and I managed to pick up a new laptop to replace my shitebook.

Picked up an emachines e627 £200, spec wise it doesn't sound great being a 1.6Ghz Athlon single core and a radeon HD3200, they actually had a dual core celeron tosh laptop for £220 but it had Intel graphics which are notoriously shite for Linux so I took the lesser spec figuring AMD drivers are decent these days, having run a HD4200 for work the past 6 months I know it works well.

Anyway have to say the thing is superb, so much faster than my Atom based machine even though the CPU is a few Mhz slower and runs only 1 thread, Atoms are pants, it even runs Vista beautifully anyone wanna buy a net book.

Downsides are its a 15.6 lappy, far too big when you are used to 10.
